Nearly 20% of the American population aged 65 to 74 has diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is also more

common in certain ethnic groups. See the chart below for incidence by ethnic group:

And as this slide shows, Type 2 diabetes is much more common among certain ethnic groups than others. Native Americans are hardest hit, with Hispanics second. Also, amongst all populations, type 2 diabetes occurs much more frequently in women with a prior history of gestational diabetes.
