Daily Care of Type
2 Diabetes
Caring for type 2 diabetes is a
time consuming task, but it becomes more manageable over time,
due to familiarity and
practice. Blood glucose must be monitored frequently.
Medications should be prescribed to help keep blood sugars in a
healthy range. Oral medications work on different areas of the
body (the muscles, the liver, and the pancreas) to help control
blood sugar levels. Diabetes is a progressive disease and
medication doses and types are often changed to keep blood
glucose values in range. Insulin is sometimes needed to control
blood sugars as diabetes progresses. The goal is not to avoid
medication or insulin, but to keep blood sugar under good
control to avoid complications. Some oral medications and
insulin can cause hypoglycemia and steps should be taken to
prevent and manage hypoglycemia. A healthy diet and regular
physical activity are also integral to successfully living with
diabetes.
That concludes the course, and it’s time to take the course
evaluation and post-test.
The organizations that provide this course’s continuing
education accreditations, and your credits for this course,
require each of you to fill out a course evaluation and to pass
the post-test with eight or more correct answers in order to
receive CE credit.
