Blood Sugar
		Spikes

		For
		those
with type-1 diabetes, mounting evidence is pointing to the harmful
effects of glucose variability.  This graph shows results from a
continuous glucose monitor worn by a patient with type-1

		diabetes.
Although premeal glucose levels are within an acceptable range, the
post-meal glucose peaks well above target.  Strategies to minimize these
types of peaks and valleys are needed for those who use mealtime
		insulin.

		Physical
activity has the potential to prevent,
minimize or reverse many of the maladies that are secondary to, or occur
concurrently, with diabetes.  One might say that it can replace a
medicine cabinet full of pills and potions, without the costs and
		potential side effects.

Improvements in glycemic control are usually seen with physical activity
as insulin sensitivity improves and glucose metabolism increases.  When
timed properly, physical activity can reduce postmeal glucose spikes.
Overall needs for insulin and anti-diabetes medications tend to decrease
		with increases in physical activity.
