Lean Body Mass
Introduction
|
Muscle, bone, fluid, and other non-fat tissues are part of the body’s lean
tissue compartment. The volume and function of lean body mass is closely
associated with wellness, morbidity, and mortality. Loss of lean tissue
increases risk of infection and other complications in chronic disease. Efforts
to rehabilitate, maintain, and enhance lean tissues can be monitored through
anthropometric evaluation. Estimates of lean tissues can be accomplished by subtracting total body fat weight from total weight as shown in Figure 19 below. Figures 20 and 21 show calculations for mid-arm muscle circumference and upper arm muscle area. Table 10 displays evaluation for mid-arm muscle circumference.

This calculation can be completed in either kilograms or pounds.

MAMC (mid-arm muscle circumference) is displayed in millimeters; UAMA (upper arm muscle area) is displayed in millimeters2.

But what about the Anthropometric in chronic disease?
