Welcome to the “On-Line BIA Workshop”. We hope you will find this
workshop a valuable learning experience to enhance your clinical skills. We
anticipate that it will take you approximately three hours to complete the
course. You are welcome to sign on several times to complete the process as
needed. Please use the same user name and password each time you visit. |

How the “On-Line Course-Taking” Process Works
Assumptions
This course assumes you have a working knowledge of body
composition, at least as far as understanding the compartmentalization of
lean and fat tissues. Because you are expected to have a baseline
understanding of body composition as mentioned above, this course qualifies
as Category II CPE. |

Features
For each table that shows weights in pounds and
height in inches there is a link you can click to see the table in metric
measures. If you experience trouble with this feature, please be assured that the
information you need to complete the post-test is within the written text.
Upon completion of this course you should be able
to do the following things:
-
List criterion (gold standard) measures for body compartments that are
used in the development of predictive equations.
-
Discuss
the validity and precision of BIA measures in relation to criterion methods.
-
Differentiate between linear and exponential equations used to predict body
compartment volumes.
-
Discuss
the limitations of body composition evaluation by tetrapolar BIA.
-
Discuss
the uses of body composition evaluation in a clinical setting.
-
Describe a
multi-compartment body composition model.
-
Discuss
the physiologic basis for body compartment increases and decreases.
-
Interpret
a standard three-compartment body composition report.
