Introduction

Type-2 diabetes, which affects more than 90% of the diabetes population, is caused by a number of genetic and lifestyle factors.  The underlying trigger for type-2 diabetes is insulin resistance – the inability of the body’s cells to properly utilize insulin effectively.  This increases the demand for insulin production by the pancreas and eventually results in beta cell burnout.  Reversing insulin resistance remains a top priority in the prevention and treatment of type-2 diabetes.
