Ask the client to raise his/her arm slightly forward, but not enough to stretch fatfold. Hold double fatfold perpendicular to the floor at the mid-axillary line and at the level of the umbilicus and measure with calipers to the nearest millimeter for both the left and right sides.

Hold double fatfold on the back fatfold about 2.5 cm to the right of the spinal column at the level of the umbilicus. Measure with calipers to nearest millimeter. This fatfold may be difficult to hold perpendicular to the floor. If so, try holding a fatfold parallel to the floor.

Hold double fatfold (perpendicular to the floor) about 2.5 cm (1 inch) to the person’s right of their belly button. Measure with the calipers to the nearest millimeter (see fatfold measures in anthropometry course for technique recommendations).
